![]() ![]() Only two of the primary characters survived the battle. I wasn't expecting there to be such a huge body count. The only foreshadowing we get are the impressive titles ("Mistress of the Macabre") Danny Trejo's character refers to his madame by, which turn out to be more literal than a first time viewer might assume.Īfter that, I simply sat there for a while, trying to comprehend just how this film about gangsters suddenly turned into a zombie movie, (just with more powerful and intelligent "zombies.") Then I realized that I didn't care, because I sat there with a big grin on my face, enjoying every ridiculous moment the movie had to throw at me. and the reveal was still jarring, because it pretty much comes out of nowhere. I was perfectly aware that those bloodsuckers (led by Salma Hayek in a small but memorable role) were running the Titty Twister bar, using it as a trap to lure in unsuspecting victims. Speaking of vampires: yes, we get them in this film, too. He reminds me a bit of Paul from Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968.) He's a pastor, but has undergone a crises of faith ever since his wife died, and must regain his trust in God to get through the situation he finds himself in. Harvey Keitel as Jacob stands out, serving as a sort of conscience for Seth, calling him out whenever he does something really unscrupulous. In a way, they are the heart and soul of this film. Not strictly necessary for the plot, but they are a large part of what makes it genuinely good. It stars George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino as Seth and Richie Gecko, a pair of brothers on the run from the law who kidnap an innocent family, sneak past the Mexican border and stay at a bar where things get heated in more ways than one. (Though some have suspected that they collaborated on both fronts.
